Care for Patients with Complex Problems (CP)2: Promising Practices presents: Easing Distress with Animatronic Pet and Doll Therapy
Thursday, May 23, 2019, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. ET
Presenter(s): Jessica Anderson, PsyD, and Emily Luitjens, MS, FNP-BC

The purpose of the Care of Patients with Complex Problems (CP)2: Promising Practices webinar series is to highlight promising practices regarding care of Veterans with complex medical, mental health and/or substance use disorders, or cognitive impairment comorbidities whose behaviors may be disruptive to care and pose challenges for safe and effective care. The need for this training is due to national feedback from VHA leaders and staff regarding barriers to care for this population of Veterans and interests in sharing and adopting promising models of care. In this series, VHA local, regional, and/or national leaders will share promising models of inter-professional care and strategies for implementation, while participants will be invited to pose questions and consider local applicability of models presented. This live, knowledge-based virtual training will provide an overview of the (CP)2 initiative and welcome broad VHA participation in this virtual learning community.
With this training, participants will be able to:
1. identify behaviors or symptoms that can be improved with the use of animatronic pets and dolls;
2. summarize current research in relation to use of doll therapy and animatronic pets as an intervention for nursing home residents with dementia; and
3. describe benefits of utilizing animatronic pets or doll therapy with nursing home residents with dementia.
Registration: To receive credit for attending, VA employees need to register in TMS before the training begins:
